Writing Your Speech
Step 1 - Brainstorm
First of all, you need to brainstorm your ideas. If you are writing about an object, then think of the different ways that you will use that object. Think of it as if you were selling that object to someone. How would you persuade them to buy it? How is it made? How is it useful to humans? How is it useful to you?
Step 2 - Write an interesting audience 'hook' |
|
Have a look at these opening lines. In speeches, they are called 'hooks' because they make the listener interested to hear more. On the left is the first opening. On the right hand side, the writer came up with a more interesting way to write the same thing. How did they make more interesting 'hooks'?
Ways to make your speech hook more interesting:
1) Use a rhetorical question
2) Encourage people to "Imagine if..." |
3) Add the word "you" so the audience feels involved
4) Mention somebody famous or well-known |
5) Involve the audience by creating a picture in their mind
6) Use onomatopoiea |
